Default Is it just me?

I'm watching Lockup: San Quentin and on their death row they have over 500 condemned men. Is it just me or does that sound lie an abnormally large number for one facility. I mean I live in a largely populated state where they have a large number of death row inmates, but I don't think it comes anywhere near that number, especially per facility. Any thoughts or am I crazy to think california condemns a lot more people then the average state.

I can`t find any stats to see which state has the most capital crimes, but I know that CA has a very lengthy appeals process, and may only have one execution every few years. As opposed to somewhere like TX which has several every year.

No worries Port! I did find the stats of % capital crime for each state; and compared to how many executions per state. But it was rather long and so I didn`t post it.

Texas has 411 with a host of scheduled executions this year.

Blake, I know, I thought the same thing. I always had thought that Florida would have the most on death row. Karon, every saturday night @ 10pm eastern on MSNBC there is a show called Lockup. And each saturday they feature a new prison and last night was San Quentin, so I don't know if they a repeat, but maybe tune in next saturday and see what they show. It's a good show.

I agree with you Blake...not the part about who pays the cable bill, although that is a legitimate point...but about A&E.

The Bill Kurtis documentaries they run are really outstanding. He has a good reputation of being a principled producer so you are geting both sides usually and no ratings grabbing sensationalism.

I learn a lot about prisons from those documentaries. I just wish he would do a couple of women's prisons because my Pen Pal is female.

I believe it is important for those of us on the outside to understand as much as we can about what goes on on the inside. I envy plastercat and gator for their first hand knowledge...although not necessarily what they had to go through to get it.

Just my thoughts

Tom
