i guess it's a good idea because a lot prisoners don't have a clue how to work with it.
when they will be back in the free world they know a little about internet !!

My Mood: | | Re: Inmate e-mail? From all the information available emailing a offender would not be the same as emailing a person in the free world and wold probably only be available to immediate family or other approved person . Attorneys would still use regular old mail as there would not be a way of ensuring confidentiality .
I found it sort of laughable about somehow putting drugs into the paper .I suppose a PhD in chemistry and pharmacology might be able to ( yes I know LSD can be put into some type of paper) . Most contraband comes in via dirty bosses and on occasion a visitor . In some me places a cell phone can get a dirty boss over $ 500 -100 USD and drugs can get hundreds .
Prisons would still have mail rooms as they would have to process packages sent in from vendors and other mail and of course there will be a (probably high ) fee for this service and not being able to send pictures is not going to be popular .
Also limiting how many they can get or send is not going to be popular . It is highly unlikely most of us would be able ot Email a PP . Then this icould be a end run around the first amendment and offenders having PPS ? When ever the government says for security reasons they usually mean something . A lesson learned in prison "security "the catch all term to further restrict things

My Mood: | | Re: Inmate e-mail? I forgot to add J Pay does work with a few DOCs to let you send a email but the offender cannot email you . It is just print out givento the offender at mail and any one could read it . It might be great for a quick hello and or hey call me type thing but not personal letter . I could be useful to tell you friend or loved one to get in touch ASAP or such or they have funds on their books
I miss the EDIT feature

My Mood: | | Re: Inmate e-mail? I know that in PA you can email through different services such as Jpay depending on which facility they are in. However it doesn't always work if you live outside the USA as you need to provide your full address. The UK postcode isn't accepted or the phone number, so you need to check it out on an individual basis. Jpay certainly allow us Brits to send money. Another way of sending letters quicker is to use l letters which is where you send your email to a centre in the US and they post it on. It reaches your friend a couple of days quicker, but is more expensive.

| | Re: Inmate e-mail? Yeah, I got a letter from my buddy today, and he sent me a flier thing about Jpay. Said it was cheaper than postage, and they were quick too. Only problem is, I don't have a credit card so I'll just just use the stamp/envelope way. But from what I read, it appears the inmates can't email you back thru Jpay. You just send the message to them thru it (if its at a fac. that uses it) and it gets to them. But they can't email you back. |

| | Re: Inmate e-mail? Go to JPay Inmate Services - Send Money, Send Email, Send Packages and click on the service map. it will tell you which fac. in the state use it. Right now not very many states do, and not every prison in the states that have it, use it. |

| | Re: Inmate e-mail? I email my PP who is in PA and he is able to write back a regular hand written letter or typewriter letter and submit it to be scanned and then emailed back to me. The facility he is in uses SECURUS. He didn't have any problem adding me to his approved list even though I was only a PP and not family. Most places will say that you have to be family or associated prior to incarceration but in most cases a story about losing touch when they went to jail can make things smooth sailing from there. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
