If you want infor online, a lot of it depends on what specifically you are seeking.

If you are looking for legal statutes and you know what it is you want, you can go to http://www.findlaw.com

If you are seeking advice, then you can go to: http://www.lawyers.com/community/index.php
which is a message board for legal matters. There is a criminal law message board where you can post a question and experts respond to such questions. Like many websites, you will have to register and give an email address and you select a password. But It's a good place to go. It's also a good source if you need information on laws pertaining to credit, home improvement, estate planning, and just about any kind of legal issue you can think of.

If you are seeking something else, just let me know and I may be able to point you in the right direction.

Will,
Even though I'm not the person who asked the original question here, I think that your reply could be a lot of help to me and also, no doubt, others on this board. So thank you, your amazing knowledge never ceases to amaze me!

Thanks for your words. I have worked with and around prisoners and the criminal justice for many years (my B.S. degree is in Criminal Justice and a minor in criminology) so I have had some exposure to it. I am glad to help when I can.

It seems to me that the inmate should be using that wrong charge as a basis for an appeal. If he was charged with one thing when in fact he should have been charged with something else, then his lawyer may not have erred if that point was not brought out.

I would imagine that the case is on appeal. If not, he should act fast because the law has deadlines for filing appeals.

One more thing, if he doesn't have a lawyer, then he may need one. I say he ought to discuss this with his lawyer. That seems to be a major error for the court make the wrong charge.

He can also request a public defender, for his appeal, if he didn't have one yet. Everybody has the right to have one of those at least once during a trial or appeal process. I know most of the time they are not the best, but it is a start.
