| Dalton, I am not sure how much of the blogs you read because it was clearly a response to his sexuality. You have the right to believe anything you want, and take what you read in any way you prefer, I am not judging you or your reaction. In the blog about the poor kid who killed himself, I know a lot of people in prison are raped but you have to question where anyone who could have helped him was. It couldn’t have happened in a split second if several people had time to do it one right after the last. And the CO’s comment about the world being a better place because he was just a fag*ot anyway….everyone knows that the whole country would be outranged and in an uproar if the case was him saying “The world is a better place he was just a nig*er anyway” Now I would like to apologize for the language because I believe both words are wrong to use but they are equally wrong. About what happened in the yard. I think everyone knows it happens to a lot of people but does that make it ok? In that case it was clearly because he is gay….just because it happens to other people for other reasons does that mean you automatically belittle the situation and look at it like oh well he is in prison it happens? |

| everyone has a story, tolerance and open mindedness should rule; I hope for the day that everyone is just a human being with feelings and compassion without all the labels. Until then I am just a gay person in Houston Texas enjoying the sun and chilly weather. I think tomorrow is Texas Independence day, I think I still have to work... |

| I think the vulnerability arises from the perceived difference as well as the stereotype of gay men being limp wristed and effeminate in the same way that lesbians are stereotyped as being butch. Wrongly I must say. Gay men are supposed to be ballet dancers or hair dressers. Not firefighters or lumberjacks. Lesbians are truckers. That's how society perceives them. When you go through school being ostracised or bullied for being queer and when homosexuality is a crime (as it is in some countries and was only decriminalised in the UK in 1969) your defence is to keep yourself to yourself and try to avoid trouble. That can be perceived as weakness. I can't back up the figure but I believe the accepted figure is about 10% of the population are gay/bi. That puts you in a minority outnumbered 9-1. Unfortunately the mob mentality comes to the fore as anyone who doesn't conform to the accepted norm is victimised and it doesn't matter how big and strong you are, 4 or 5 to 1 are not good odds. I am appalled by what have read in your blog. I think it's very sad that the young lad took his own life and how callously the CO reacted. I do think that because of gay men's um.. (can't think of a way to put this diplomatically) sexual activity.. they are seen as an easy target for rape simply because they must want it. (yeah right) I have written a couple of guys in the past and realise I have to be very cautious what I write in case I inadvertently 'out' them to either COs or other inmates who might take advantage. Look forward to reading more of your blog.

| Trimmy, thanks for the blogs. What happened to that kid, is simply unacceptable. The reaction of the guards reaffirms the signature on my posts is right on the money. I beleive in karma, it gives me comfort to know that everyone gets theirs in the end. I can only think what such trash will be doled out as payback for such filth coming out of their head and mouth. I have posted many times, over and over, about the fact that I am a republican. I beleive strongly in gay rights, scratch that, I feel strongly for equal rights for everyone. Recently our city voted on an inititative for granting employee benefits for gay couples, of course I voted for it. From another point of view, I think about what everyone is saying about people being perceived as "vulnerable". Some are blessed to have pp's and friends in prison who are strong, straight and have avoided too much trouble. Then there are those of us who have pp's, friends, significant others who are marked not because of what they do now, but because of their past gang affiliations, sexual orientation, their "vulnerabilities", stero types, or diablilities. Are these pp's higher maintence? I can only answer for myself, they may be, emotionally speaking, and I wouldn't trade my pp for anything. I hope you will tell your partner how thought provoking his blogs are. I love that that the one inmate trying to kick something off on the court got dumped by his friends.
