I was wondering how everyone found out about WAP, what made them decide to write, and how many pps everyone has? (I'm sure there's had to have been a similar thread like this before.)
I found out about WAP on a TV show on A&E, I decided to write because at the time I had about 4 penpals in other countries and thought it would be a different experience to have one in prison (plus my oldest sister went to prison once and explained to me what a lonely experience it was). I only have one pp.

i was watchin this program called LOCKED DOWN(not any cuz i don't have cable).they mention this website WRITEAPRISONER.COM etc..etc... i just went and looked at the website for curiasity. i NEVER thought that i would be writin to some 1 in prison or fallin in love. i only write to 2 my byfrnd and the other one is just a good frnd=)

well,the first prisoner i wrote to is a man on death row texas.
i was asked by a woman in the usa i knew from a website if i wanted towrite this man.
i didn't know nothing about this man only his name and address.
maybe you all know when you start with one pp there will come a number two etc....
so i was brownsing the internet and found wap,looked trough the ads and found my number two.
the most beautful thing from wap is it's not only for prisoner ads but also a forum for family,friends and loved ones.

This was something I have wanted to do for a long time but have never taken the plunge to do it! I found WAP through a google search when I was doing some research.
It took me about 2 weeks to find who I wanted to write to and I now have 2 awesome PP's and it makes my day when a letter comes through the door

Letterwriting is kinda my hobby, and I have some PPs from Japan actually ;D I was looking for one more and just came across this site! I got very curious and thought, why not write a prisoner if I would wrote to someone else? ...at first I was gonna write to someone on DR or doing life sentence...but I couldn't face murders etc etc (..)so I finally picked up my pp and we've been writing for abt 1 and half months now...so im very new with this! im not planning to have more pps at the moment, but we'll se....^^ but I gotta say if we didn't have WAP I would have never written to a prisoner, you guys are all so helpful and this site is so well organized etc etc <3<3 this is great, lots of hughs and kisses to you all and mods especially!!! thank you so much, you make many people very very happy!!<3 ..inside and outside!!<3

I found out about WAP on the web while I was doing some research. An old friend of mine ended up in prison last year(I found out about that on the web too) & since we'd lost contact over the years & she was now locked up, I decided to write her. She didn't respond at 1st due to emabarrassment & denial about even being in prison. But I kept writing anyway & she eventually wrote back. She's been in prison for a year now & we've been writing to each other almost as long. Well, since I love to write old -fashioned paper letters as a hobby.....I recently decided to try & get 1 or 2 more penpals as I knew I had enough time to attend to & write to them all equally. So the next one that I just got right b-4 Easter is one on death-row. Then I got one more that's in regular lock-up. So right now I have 3 & am thinking about a 4th but only thinking about it. See how it goes I guess.

They are all females & I am really enjoying the bond between women. I find I can say things to them that I don't even feel comfortable saying to my fiancee. Not only do I love to send letters, cards, etc to my penpals, I love to see a letter in my mail box from them as well. I wouldn't have this priviledge if it weren't for REPUTABLE websites such as this. Please keep up the AWESOME work guys.....you Rock!!!!

I always loved to write, since i was a child, I always had penpals. When i wanted to start writeing again, after many years, i was searching for english writeing pals (to learn the language). Man or female, not important.
By change i found WAP. I wasnt searching for someone to write in prison. It was the ad what had my attention, and i have some friends who where in prison before. So i wasn't shocked at all. I just pick up my pen and start to write. And it was a great decission

well, it's an interesting situation that brought me here to WAP...I had a neighbor who became incarcerated for robbery,and I never really spoke to him but a fw times. Anyway, he had a teen son who I heard died from an overdose. So, feeling horrible I looked up where this gentleman was and sent my condolences. I could only imagine how he must have felt! I grew suspicious however, when after like 2 months of writing on a freindly level he stated his love for me, and how he wanted more. Through the grapevine, I heard this guy was a player, and to be careful. I heard he had ads like everywhere, so I investigated and this site was the first on the search engine. Well, I never knew so many people wrote to prisoners! to be honest it's something I Never thought I would do.Long story short, I found the love of my life here quite by accident,,,,his words touched me, and for me that was a first. I took a chance and decided to write my future husband..feeling almost like I knew him from somewhere? anyway, we clicked and now, here I am . He was the only guy I wrote too, after I ended correspondence with my neighbor. I never even considered writing to anyone else,as I only wrote to him due to this compelling feeling that was almost nostalgic. Now here I am married, with 2 babies and another on the way this October!

I was looking on google to find out how much prison time one of my friends could get for supplying liqor to minors. This site popped up and I was like wtf you can actually write a prisoner lol! I went on it and just looked at the crimes people did and stuff, it was interesting lol. Soo then I came across my baby, and I knew right then and there, I had to write him.

I was looking around on the net for subject matter that related to my job and prison pen pal sites came up. At the time, I was actually under a lot of stress as I was dealing with a criminal charge (nothing serious) but didnt know what quite to expect as far as sentencing or punishment. So I thought what the hell, why not ask a criminal, they will know or at least have a better understanding of these matters. It worked and we got to talking and are "buddies" now.
