I found WAP when I was doing research for a friend who was on Death Row. When I put his name in one of the sites that mentioned him was WAP.

I've been writing inmates for years. I had a childhood friend that I had lost contact with for about 12 years and when I found out that he was back in prison, I did some research and found his contact information and we've been writing ever since. We've known each other now for almost 30 years! We were engaged for 7 years and then he married someone else, but we're still friends. My current boyfriend and I have been writing for 10 years and he gets out in 2015. Then I have one other pen pal that I still write to. I am thinking of adding a fourth because it's so easy to become addicted to the mail. It makes my day and I know it makes theirs to have mail and whatever little goodies I can send.

I don't get to sign in here as much as I would like, but it's an awesome website for information and just talking to other people who understand.

I had written to ''normal" (forgive me I mean non-incarcerated) penpals before, but the conversations were way too shallow for me. So when I googled "Penpal", WAP showed up. I thought 'why not?' and decided to write to someone who hadn't received any mail before. My first penpal and I had a good correspondence, which was terminated (by him) when he was released. I was disappointed, but decided to check the website by 'not receiving any mail' again, and there I saw an add which jumped right at me, although I wasn't in the target group of this prisoner. In spite of all that we have been corresponding for 4 years now. My family and myself have been visiting him during our holiday in the last two years. We also got acquainted with his family.. My kids send drawings and I send letters and books. We cannot call unfortunately as he is incarcerated in the Huntsville Unit in Tx.
According to him, we are his lifeline to sanity. So all in all it has been a very enriching experience for all of us!

I found wap by websearch when I first got online in September 2007. I have been writing inmates (mostly gay males) since I got sober in May 1984. Currently I write 7 not in prison folks and 13 inmates on a weekly basis.

well it was by pure accident really a friend of mine was going to do prison ministry i thought first of all why i was really negative to the idea so i begane to research it then i came across this sight the intoduction really made me feel sad and drew me in i came across the ad's of prisoners not recieving mail and as i went threw them i was like yea this one just looks like a murder etc ..and i'd guess their crime ....and scoffed at the way some of them had the nrve to put what they expect out of a women etc the femals were all looking for a man then i came across my friends ad he was just looking for a friend not a relationship i liked what he had to say it was the holidays so i decided why not and wrote him i never thought i'd ever do something like that but well here i am today 3 years later with a whole other attitude never say never

I spoke about writing prisoners with a friend of mine. I wanted to do it for a long time, but never actually did it. She was writing for a year bij then and told me some things about it. She also mentioned WAP. That same evening I checked the site and that week I wrote my first letter. That was in February. I now have 1 pp and I absolutely love the whole writing-and-receiving-letters-thing

I was looking up so infor for a pal of mine. the site had many links too pen pal topics, that is where i found wap at. ( i think anyways lol)

I had a friend in a twelve step program that went to prison. She was released and I missed writing her. I now have 5 pen pals. I enjoy writing them and doing things for them.

I was watching a TV show called "the secret lives of women: women who love bad boys" on the WE channel. A lady on the show mentioned the website and I was curious. After reading the introduction information I decided to write.
