Last month I asked my Pal to think about what she wanted for Christmas.

We are in the position where in the past we have been able to spend a substantial amount on her Christmas presents and she knows it so she isn't shy about asking for what she really wants.

This morning she asked me how much we had spent on her last Christmas and I told her...at least as close as I could remember. There was a pause and she said...would it be ok with you if you spent half that much on me this year and spent the other half on some of the women here who don't have as much as I do?

"There are women here I know who have no family, whose families have ignored them for years, have no friends, never get mail and Christmas is the worst time of the year for them. Most of them just sit in their room and cry. It hurts me a lot that I can't do anything for them."

So she will pick five of her friends who need a warm touch at Christmas and we will send them some money for Christmas. My Pal will give them each a card so they know the gift came from her.

My Pal could have just ignored these women and enjoyed her Christmas with whatever she wanted...but she didn't do that...she is reaching out to others who have less than her in a place where no one has anything.

I was so proud of her I cried...so did my wife when I told her.

How cool is my Pen Pal???

Very coool! You should print out the responses to show her how cool others think she is.

Since we started writing to one another almost three years ago I have made it a rule that any time I write to others about her she gets a copy of what I have said...she also gets a copy on any responses I get to what I have written about her. It has always seemed to me to be the 'up front' thing to do.

So she will definitely get a copy of all the posts in this thread.

That said...I just want to say thank you for all your kind words about my Pal and to me. She is a very special young woman who has pulled herself from the depths of misery and despair to the verge of starting a whole new exciting life. She is a success story that shows what a little love and support for those incarcerated can do when they put their minds, hearts and souls into it!
