| Ms Happy,I did speak at my husbands parole RECISSION hearing, but Im not sure if that qualifies to what you are asking. basically, he was granted parole at his first hearing,then had it taken away due to a victims impact being given 2 weeks before he was to come home. they rescinded his date and gave him a "new" hearing(yeah right-it was basically already predetermined in my eyes) you better beleive I was present for this hearing as well as the Larrys lawyer and boss. their where 4 parole commisioners and a stenographer, we put up an excellent case but it doesnt matter in the laws eyes they do what they do. hope this helps, if you have any other questions, PM me Rose |

| I only watched on TV,,,inmates coming up before the parole board,, they seemed to be looking for sincereity,,not just the words you think they want to hear,but,,,from the gut, your goals when out ,,if any ideas on jobs,, where to live,,, your record while inside,,, what you have learned from the crime commited while in,,, had time inside to think,,,, if you utilized all the schooling or class's while in such as Ged,,,Anger managment,, how you spent your time while in,,, if you have thoughts or feelings on or about the victims,,, how you can improve or do outside to help or improve the past mistakes,,,,usually they want to see past" friends w/no crimianl record there and family backing,,,, but,, would frown on a pp being there and not take as a credible person to back their release,,, skills to make it outside so not using theft or other to support,,, yourself or depending on family to for you,,, for long time,,,How much time served versus,,, how the min sentence would have been,, if they say something neg toward you or push a button ,, how you will react to that,, not just words also body gestures,, they are not stupid,,,they deal with and see this all the time,,,and used to different methods,,and personalitys,, they have before them the social workers comments too,, all infor on time spent in ,,,in frt of them and study before coming infrt of the inmate for the parole commission,,,, board,,, all I can think of ,,,, and hope gives some insight...........

| I didnt even think you could speak at a parole hearing unless you were a relative of the inmate or else a victim. Am I wrong on this??

| In most states friends and family members are prohibited from speaking at parole release hearings. Letters of support, however, are usually acceptable. The only common variance to this rule is in the case of a rescission hearing (held when the board of parole has granted discretionary release and, before release occurs, wants to rescind its decision granting release based on some previously unknown factor or subsequent serious violation of institutional rules). |
| ||||
| So at a normal parole hearing and not a rescission one, who all is allowed to attend? Is it just the inmate and the parol board?

| Sure Prison Litigator will,,,answer you,,,but,, from what I saw the family "direct" is allowed inside to listen but,,, cannot talk,,, letters can be sent prior to the meeting,,, Think prior to,, the victims family is allowed to send in letters or come before them but,,, at a different time,,, helps I think,,if no victim of the family comes forward,, has a lot of impact on decision,,,,, I think the parole board is really sitting on the hot seat,, tough job,, they have to foremost keep public safety in mind,,, and if one is released and does more harm,,,, well,, can imagine the public and legal heat they will face,,,,,, tough job,,

| Thanks Peanut. Yeah it’s a rock and a hard place for any parole board and I don’t envy them that choice. Its like enough is enough if an inmate has paid their dues and been a disciplined prisoner and even furthered themselves education wise while in Vs/ victims and victims families and all the harm caused by his or her criminal behavior and will they be an ongoing threat once let out? I would not want to be in their shoes and how do you weigh that??
