Default half-way houses

I was just wonderin' if anyone knew about half-way houses? My sweet guy just told me last night that he met with his "unit team" and they said he could be sent to a 1/2way house in 12 months, rather than be paroled in 18 months. He is supposed to be paroled to my home, but now they are saying he can
do the 1/2-way house 6 months earlier- and here's the rub- He has to raise $3500.00 to be eligible. (it's always about money, isn't it?) His work detail only earns him $15.00/month. Can they require this? (He's in a federal correctional institute in CA for illegal possession of a weapon)Any info or insight would surely be appreciated - thanks!

I know it cost an inmate to stay at a halfway house but that is taken from the money the earn while living there fore part of the requiremnets are they get a job. The halfway houses in Pennsylvania take 20% for there cost and 20% for inmates release fund (savings so when the inmate is release they have money need to get a place to live and so on. I do not know of any halfway houses that require a payment up front. Most halfway house in Pennsylvania are run by the state or non proft groups like the Salvation Army or church groups. Of course every state is different so you may want to check them out in Ca. You could also contact you local Salvation Army chapter for they can be a great assistances. That is all I know. Hope it helps some and good luck. Mike

Thank you Mike & Kimbra!!! I will check with the salvation army. I had previously written to the penitentiery, asking for referrals to half-way houses in the area. They wrote me back and told me it was their decision to make where & if he would go to a 1/2way house. The thing about the $3500.00 down payment, so to speak, didn't sound right to me, and I told him so. He is sending me the paperwork from his unit team where it is all spelled out. Your explanation sounds so much more sensible, Mike. I remember that a former "regular" on this board, LeeAnn, was upset about her guy going to a half-way house rather than be paroled to her - but then she disappeared and I don't know how it was resolved. But the $3500 sure sounds fishy to me, so I can't wait to see it in writing.
