Default First time visit - Helpful info?

I'm headed to the Clinton Annex in Dannemora, NY Monday. Anyone visited there? What is it like? Comments, suggestions much appreciated! It is my first time visit ever to a prison.

I can't speak for that institution specifically, but I can suggest the following:

Do not carry anything inside, except a single key to your vehicle, photo identification (or other required paperwork), and a few dollars (less than $5, generally). You shouldn't need a pocket book (purse).

Wear CONSERVATIVE clothing; i.e., long pants (not the hip-hugger type), a top with short or long sleeves (no sleeveless shirts), and shoes that cover your entire foot (safety issue).

Go easy on the makeup and perfume. Don't wear anything metal if possible (hair clips, etc.).

The advice you have been given so far is helpful and please take note of it. I would, however, call the institution and ask them of any special requirements. i would hate to think that you have gone to a lot of trouble only to be denied at the last minute.

Starknock,
He called me tonight and I asked him again, what I needed. He asked the guard and the guard said I'd be ok. To bring my drivers' license for ID. I dress professionally for work, and will dress the same for my visit. That should be safe, although I'll bring a change or two of clothes, just to be prepared. I also asked him if I have to be put on a list before I get there. The guard said no, it's a first time visit, and I'll be on the list after that. He (my penpal) knew that, but I keep asking because I'm driving almost 3 hours I think one way, just to get there. He was calling the guard by his first name and they seemed friendly. Guard said I wouldn't be turned away as long as I had my ID. Thank you very much for the info. I am new to this as I said. Am not going to worry myself. Things always seem to fall in place for me (knock on wood!).
