Default First Time Pen Pal

I just wrote to someone in Corcoran for the first time. I am still waiting to receive a reply. Any advice?

yes. Write to 2 others. Once you get the ball rolling, this is a way cool hobby. I am up to 30. [my limit]

Yeah I agree, write to 2 others. I made the mistake of being too impatient when I wrote to someone and didn't hear back. SO I wrote to several people. Something like about 15. Well over several months, some of those people I didn't hear from eventually wrote to me. So now I am writing to 11 people. I don't think I could handle writing to more than that.

So I, select a couple more people and wait a while. Sometimes there are many reasons why the person doesn't write back. The pen pal may be our of stamps or maybe he needs paper or envelopes. Or maybe the prison is on lock down in response to a disturbance or some other problem. So you may end up hearing from someone later. But you know there were a couple of people that I never did hear from. Guess that's just how it is sometimes.

Sorryy for rambling on like this.

Will

Thanks to both of you for your advice, time has been dragging along and I have had no word, so that kind of drives you crazy waiting. So, I am relieved to hear that it does take a long time.
How do I find out if he needs stamps or envelopes and paper??
I just hope he does get my letter, because he has been incarcerated for twenty years. His eyes are soooo sad. I know my letter will cheer him up.
Lela

I also write to two pp's. One is back east in West Virginia, and the other is in Arizona where I'm at. The one in WV takes at least 2 weeks to hear anything back from, and the guy in Az is really good about writing me as soon as he gets my letters, but evidently pick up and delivery is sporadic where he's housed, so sometimes I get a letter within a few days and sometimes it's a full week. He's taken to putting tracking numbers on his letters that go out because he's had some lost/stolen. So, don't worry, your pp will be glad to hear from you and I'm sure will get back to you as soon as he can. You sound like a really nice person, and he's fortunate to have you for a pp.
Hang in there!

Jennifer

holy crap! Look how many pp's you guys have. To think I was considering having only one! As time goes on I've thought about having three in total. But then I think maybe that is too much! 11????? That's just amazing to me!

It really depends on how long ago you wrote it and if you're in the same country. Sometimes the prison system's mail is very slow. I have a penpal in that same prison !
