If normal mail delivery to an address takes 3-4 days, approximately how long does it usually take from the time you mail a letter to a prison until the time the inmate receives it? I called the prison and asked, they said "how ever long it takes for the post office to deliver it here", but I know that can't be entirely true...all the mail they get and have to inspect it, sort it, etc.

And what has been your experiences in how long it takes to recieve a response back....given that the inmate writes back, is not in lockdown and is permanently placed (not awaiting transfer, etc.) or anything?

It all depends. If its 3-4 days normal delivery time, I would add on an additional day before the inmate actually receives your letter. But then you need to take into account how long it takes him to reply and get it back into the outgoing. He might be out of stamps or stationary also. Not all inmates just have those kinds of things lying around. As a rule of thumb, within the US, I would recommend giving it a month or at least 30 days. It might be sooner and hopefully it is. If you hear nothing after a month, you can send a follow up to the same inmate or try another and you will probably hear from someone.

The mail in this state is real fast. If I mail out a letter by noon he receives it the next day. It usually takes 2 days for me to receive mail after he sends it. I definately have no complaints with the postal service or the mail room on this end!

MY PP in Maryland gets my mail as I date and time it hehehehehehe I write on the back of the envelope time sent and also time I am writing on the left hand side of the letter, but I also tend to write a daily diary with a stroke ! I have given up writing a full letter all at once. His given me a run down of his day, so Hey I give him the run down of my week, he loves to hear me rant on about my daily life, but I also like to air my views on certain situations........... He would be happy to hear all my problems, But as the saying goes, a problem shared is a problem halfed
