Default Dating your Pen Pal?

Anyone on here develop strong feelings for their pen pal and began dating them while incarcerated? Reason I ask, I have done this and he is getting out in 6 weeks. I am becoming very apprehensive as his date of discharge gets closer for we plan to meet and start a relationship in person. Can anyone share from their experience or give me any advice?

Thanks so much! Have a great day!

What advice do you seek? I think it it depends on how long you have been with each other, how long they have been incarcerated, what kind of person they are, etc, etc.

My advice, take it as you would ANY relationship and enjoy the ride.

Girl....you'll have to tell us how it goes because I'm RIGHT behind you......about 2 years behind you.

Met my bf on here. Visited. The phone is new, but we've still got about 23 months to go. I don't expect it to be easy at all MOST DAYS. Then I'll get all dreamy and believe love conquers all, but I know from experience that's really not true. Our relationship is going to take commitment and perseverance, but I believe he's worth it.

I'd love to hear how it goes for you and as Smiley said, the info she mentioned would give people a better idea as to what kind of advice to give you.

FAIR WARNING: there are PLENTY of people who do not think this is a good idea and they won't be afraid to tell you about it.

First meeting outside I would suggest to have it in public places, or friends near to introduce too. Let us know how it goes

Meeting your pp on the outside means meeting him in a public place, also for your own saftey.
you didn't really know him just through letters, maybe a few visits, but that doesn't mean that you know him.

Thank you all for your replies. I will surely keep you posted. AND by all means I am meeting him in a public place at first with some "secret" friends in the background. I am going into this very level headed. I am taken a lot of pre-cautions. I really had no idea this would happen when I began corresponding to inmates. It is really quite a beautiful thing. I think he has helped me and encouraged me more through some difficult times I was going through. It's amazing how things turn out in life. We have become a support to eachother. I know outside people judge and it does upset me, but true love conquers all...

Hope your meeting goes well and he is the person you have come to know through the sharing of letters. Wish you both the best.

mami, I believe that how this has turned out for you is a quite common experience. It stinks to be sure. Perhaps it comes under the category of, I needed you while I was locked up, and it was all well and good. But now that I am out, I have many other choices. I think about the same thing happening to me. Although, as it is right now, I may not have to confront that situation anytime soon.
