cost of housing inmates from mississippi thought maybe some of you might like to know:
A legislative oversight committee is studying the cost of housing state inmates in county jails and the findings could lead lawmakers to rethink the payments made to local facilities. House corrections chairman Malone pushed for the review saying the counties could house state inmates for alot less than the 20.00 a day per prisoner Mississippi pays them. The real cost of housing those inmates will probably run no more then 5.00 a day, Malone says. They already got the jail there whether they have state inmates or not. They already have the utilities and they have the deputy, the only increase in operating costs is food. We're feeding them at Parchman for less then 2.00 a day. Each year, PEER estimates the cost of housing an inmate per day at Mississippi Dept. of Correction facilities, the cost per inmate per day for a 1,000 bed prison was estimated at 44.36 in fiscal year 2003. my pp is in parchman and to feed them for less then 2.00 a day is true because i know what he eats and i wouldn't feed that slop to my dogs. |
