Good Luck, Aristotle. That's not a bad idea for a healthy diversion.

I haven't played since High School (and I'm not saying WHEN that was).

Heck, I can't even remember which way the little horsey moves. (just kidding)

I am currently playing 6 games with inmates at different prison. You may find that there are many good chess players in prison. We use a post card system. I made up a post card using card stock with a chess board on it we just mark our moves and mail it out. So far it is inmates 26 mike 2. mikeinpa

OMG! I LOVE chess! I play in person and on Yahoo Instant Messenger but I can't imagine having a game via mail. I'd forget where I was in multiple games although I've hinted for a game to my pals.

Mike, the postcard idea sounds great! Do you send your guys the postcards in a letter? Many people, including myself, are unclear as how to write a proper move. Q1 to ?? LOL

Like other people, I haven't played chess in ages. When playing chess by mail, is it considered cheating if you consults chess strategy books when making moves? I wouldn't want to get beaten - too quickly!

Well since I have found many ways around institution rules, or should I say loop holes. Any way this is what I do.
I uses a full sheet of card stock. I have the ches board shown on one side and general a note to the inmate on the other. Yhis is the top half or the sheet.

The bottom half has the Chess board on one side and the other side is left blank so the inmate can write anything if he wishes.

I then fold the sheet in half and seal with a 1" X 4" label across the bottom. Make sure to address the half you have your move on.

When the inmate gets this he cuts or tears the sheet in half makes his move, writes me a little note address the othe side and mails it too me.

However with the guys in states that can recieve stamps or envelopes like Florida I do the card a little differnt for I address to and a return to me with postage print on the card stock. Bascily like above except that all of my stuff is on out side of the card the inmate tears oof the half with my address notes and move and fills in his move and a note and drops it in the mail postage and address are write there for him.
