I have 4 pen pals all with in different states. But for some reason I can only get information on 2 of them. One said he was in transit which the internet confirmed so thats why I figured I couldnt find him but the other one I cant find anything on at all!!! No information no picture no nothing!? Anyone have this problem?? I go to the prison he is being held at website and I look up his name and it brings up some old 50 yr old white guy...my pen pal is 27 and black?!?! anyone have any ideas?

he is at MCDC Canton, MS

Is he in federal prison? Because I found my pp on their web site. Without the picture, but his number was correct and his age too. I had troubles finding info about him online though.

Information on federal prisons is much harder to find than state. Some of the state online lookups are excellent; Florida and Kentucky come to mind because they have photos as well as info so you can verify if the person you are writing to is actually him or her self.

Please also keep in mind that the information that your pen pal told you might not be accurate. If the only information you can find is of a 50 year old white man. It might just be he is passing for a 27 year old black man because he thinks that profile might draw more responses. People are not always honest about their profiles. Not saying this is your case, but it does happen. Just be cautious. :-)

The inmate number online does not match up with the address to whom i am writing to.. does that make a difference? or can inmates still receive mail based on their names not their numbers?

YOu are right. Their numbers are very important and if the number of your pp doesn't mach the number of the guy you found online, then there's definitely no doubt, there are two guys in prison who have got the same name.

Letizia Rocca is correct. If the numbers are different, then the men are not the same; just share the same name. The number is critical.
