Hello everyone, quick question does anyone know of a web site where your PP's can place an ad online to try and get donations to help pay for books for college? If you know please place a ink on on this topic. I know of Amazon, Barns and Noble book store but there is no place to place an ad anywhere. your opinion and help would be greatly appericated.

My suggestion is instead of trying to get financial donations, find a sponsor to donate the books, even contacting printing houses. Many organizations will do this from Church groups to those coming into the prison teaching classes, and individuals. That is where i would start first. Maybe the College where he is getting all the information from will be able to steer you in the right direction as well.
When it comes to prisoners most people are suspect when someone starts asking for $$$, but sponsors and donating books you may find people are more willing to help.
I know this is how one friend achieved his goal of a college education while inside.

well see did not ask me to pay for it she just wanted to help guide her into a direction get it done her self. i was jsut thinking to buy them myself online which i can do and they can send it to her.. they are trying to charge those girls 200 dollars more then what they cost online brand new.

It would be difficult for her to do it herself out side of taking course She will need some form out freeworld help to obtain any thing regardless of the source . Prisoner cannot make purchases or order things from the free world everything must come from store or the seller approved by that DOC or BOP Amazon and Barnes and Noble are apporved by all DOC's and BOP.
Staples and other office supply stores will ship writing supplies you can order online .Such as paper and envelopes If possible get them with pre printed return address make sure it is in black ink or it could be rejected . They usually can not leave store until they put their name and number on every envelope and note book or pad ect. TX prohibits colored paper due or any logos/ cartoon characters due to gang problems with it .

Mike here is something else you can do . My family would buy paperback college text books and references sometimes used and have them shipped to me buy the bookstore . College texts cost a lot . When I was taking courses a few years ago I paid over $300 for books one semester . Once a book cost me 150 at Amazon ! They did not have used copies . Used paperback texts can cost much less .

Another way help with college that is not as well known , is what is called life experience credits . You pay a fee 50 -100 and take the test at the school you plan on attending . I did this an shave off 1 and ½ years of courses and was given a few credits for what that University calls general Education Credit Course . All students are required to take some sort of courses out side their major in various areas at that University . Reading text and self study can help with this way as well as the area they want to major in or introduce them to a new area.. It will help get a college degree. It also keeps you out of trouble if you are into a book or studying you are not involved with the drama as much . You also have more hope and self esteem . But they in the end have to want to do this and put the effort in . A few used text books cost little and can go along ways .

You might be able to look up some other educational material online and if you are going to school find it there and copy things for her you can usually send in a few pages of a article . Though some DOCs limit how many pages you can send so it might take a few letters or you can copy it on a Scanners shrink the font and spaces between lines . Not as easy to read but can do the job Do not attempt to send in a whole book or magazine you copied .

You can also find subscriptions to magazines and academic journals online . Ask that prison mail room before ordering . Each prison will have it's own rules depending on type of population it houses .

None of this is a violation of any DOC rule unless you are sending in a prohibited materials .Obviously things about violence and sex acts are on the list of things not to send as well as anything pertaining to escape even in fiction or a study . Ass previously stated if you have questions if it is allowed call that prison mail room and ask to speak with the mail room supervisor they will know and tell you . It saves them time and effort

This will require a small amount of funds on your part usually less than $ 100 That is if you are willing to spend any money . I would wait until I got to know that person for at least a year
Sending info easily and inexpensively obtained is one thing buying stuff is another

You do not have to to pay for a expensive course to help a PP begin a education .

ASE yes thanks for the insight. I my self went to collge and got my Bachlors Dgree spent like 3-600 dollar on books per semister. I know anything dealing with money or science is going to some where up there if a little higher in cost. I did buy ALL my books unless it was something that my teacher said specific then i had to buy it at my Univserity. I went o Michigan State University and got my degree in Forensic Psychology so you only only think how much books and etc will cost u there.

Yes I know about the vendors and etc, I myself was in prison and I know how it goes, I did not know it was teh same in all states and thanks for letting me know that informaiton as well.

I my self am back in college right back to MSU as well going into my next degree in Behavorial Science and man my book did run like 6-700 dollar for this semister. I was not too happy about it but it is a must to proceed in my next degree.

But what I was thinking about doing was just buy the books for her and i know I can use it as a form of a tax write off for next year taxes. I am going to ask her the author and title of the book as well as teh ISB number on the back of the book and look into the cost out here, cause i know they are taxing those girls in there cause they are locked up and maybe again they are not..
