Default Care Packages

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but I'm going to ask anyway.

Can the inmates get some sort of care packages IF they are sent direct from the distributor?

I know that's the only way they can get books, but what about other necessities like shampoo or deoderant, etc? I mean if it's shipping from CVS.com or Wal-Mart.com MAYBE????

I mean I know they allow them to purchase these things through commissary and my guess is that's the ONLY way they are allowed to purchase them so that the prisons can rake in some money, but I figured I'd ask.

I figure it may have something to do with what prison you're in or your classification. Any info is appreciated.

Hey YMIHere,

I think it depends on what State they're in. My guy's in California and on the Dept. of California Corrections page there is a list approved vendors.

Take care,
Nashville

A far as I remember, there are some websites dealing exclusively with the sending of food or non-food packages to the inmates (care products, foods, clothes...). But be careful, some facilities do not approve these websites (to make it short, that means for them that some items are not secure or they will be not purchased in their canteens). These websites have to inform you because they (normally) know which facilities accept to receive packages from them. If it is not mentioned in the website, just send an email (to these websites) and ask them if the facility of your pen-pals regards them as approved vendor. It depends on one facility to another one. There is no rule... good luck !
I remember that some items were unfairly expensive....that could be another reason why some facilities do not allow some of them.... I don’t know, just a thought.

My PP sent me a list of approved item but it is minimal what we can send from the outside to be safe i always call the mail room it prevents items being returned and having the postage deducted from the inmate

Is the cost of the postage deducted from the inmate account If a package or letter is returned to the sender ??? are you postive ? (I don't really know about that issue)

if is it true... that sounds so amazing to me ! If someone sends an unapproved thing or letter, the postage would be charged to the inmate ?? But it is not the fault of the inmate, but of the sender !
Are all the facilities (or states) doing like that ??
