Hey everyone!
So as some of you know, I am an Aussie who is in America working, and decided on getting a pen pal, as a means of something new, fun as well as a rewarding thing to do. So I told my mum back home that I was doing this, and had written to a few different pen pals all over the country. She doesn’t seem too worried, however gave me some ‘tips’ of what not to do….some of which I have already done! Such as the last name situation, and giving photos etc. I am assuring her that I haven’t done this yet (so I lied to her), however now I am starting to feel a little worried, because as we know, mum is always right lol. I just want to know if anyone else had these worries to begin with, or are receiving the same type of ‘tips’ from their loved ones. What should I tell mum to put her to ease… I think the fact that I’m ‘away from home’ is her main concern

I would not be concerned. Whats your pp going to do with a picture? I would guess that your chances of this person showing up on your door step are slim to none. Mom is not always right, you just have to let her think she is.

As a mum of 5 i can tell you, not matter what you do or where you are she will always worry, it's our job.....LOL.

What to tell her? That she taught you well and you are now an adult and she needs to trust you to make the right decisions now.

I think the chances of your PP showing up at your home are pretty slim.I send pictures to my two PP's all of the time .If you feel worried maybe just get a PO Box and ask them to write you there.Maybe you could say you were going to move.Im not really sure about how to take your adress back.I have always had a PO Box.I am quite sure you will be just fine.My grandmother gets paranoid as well.I think the media has lead so many people to think that everyone in prison are crazy killers.I was in prison and I would have never showed up on someones doorstep.I had just got out I wasnt about to go back in for some stupid stuff.

I will agree with showyourpride in part. mums arnt always right just 99.9% of the time lol
BUT to lie to her and allow her to think she is could cause a whole lot more trouble if/when she finds out the truth. Honesty whether liked or not is always best.
its a whole easier to tell the truth.lies always come back to bite you on the butt.
