Today in London, a man went on a knifing spree. In just over an hour, a man drove round stabbing people. He has left 1 dead and 5 injured.The dead man was 58 married with children. 2 of the other 5 are in a critical condition.
The man has been arrested, he is suffering fron mental illness. Apparentley a third of all people who kill are suffering from meantal illness. And at least 1 in 10 killers have seen a psychiatrist within the 6 months before their attack. Makes you think doesn't it? As someone who has worked closely with the mentally ill, and having a family member suffering from schicsoprenhia (sp) I for one am saddened that it takes a tragedy like this to make us realise that these people need more help than they are getting. Sorry for the depressing post so close to Christmas - but, hey, that's life in the real world!

You will recall the trend a few years back when psychotherapeutic drugs came into being, was to empty out the mental institutions. As you know, those who most need the drugs, often stop taking them because of the side effects. Paranoid schizophrenia often takes control of the individual resulting in murder. These same individuals most often end up in prison without proper treatment and become a threat to guards and inmates alike.

i saw that on the news, but didnt hear the whole story - thanks for filling me in. yeah it is a hectic topic of 'conversation' for xmas time - but... as you say.. real life doesnt just stop for christmas and holidays ... sad to think that people end up like that isnt it?
