Thumbs up Algebra time

OK. My pen pal and I are becoming "serious" about writing now. You should the size of these envelopes. Bibles have less pages. Anyway, I am new to this and have questions about postage.

I'm trying to figure out exactly how much postage I need to deliver one of these puppies.

Now...

Let's review some facts here.

Currently, the USPS postage rates are like so:

Letters
Weight Not Over / Price
  • 1 ounce $0.44
  • 2 ounces $0.61
  • 3 ounces $0.78
  • 3.5 ounces $0.95

I also read somewhere that the average number of 20 lb. paper sheets that equal one ounce is 5.

So...

Here are my questions:

You can send a 5-page letter for .44 cents, right?
You can send a 10-page letter for .61 cents, right?
You can send a 15-page letter for .78 cents, right?
You can send a 17-page letter for .95 cents, right?

I'm asking this because I think I have been over-postaging and my pen pal probably thinks I am nuts for it.

Can't you just go to the post office and get them to weigh it for you and put the correct stamp on? That's what I do here when I don't know how much postage I should be paying.

The other thing is ...and I don't know why i'm even replying cause it's probably different in the states, but here it's not JUST the weight it also goes on the thickness of the envelope. ie if its too thick doesn't matter how heavy it is you have to pay more.

You crazy Americans just love making it hard! lol

Here we write a letter, put it in an envelope, put stamp on said envelope and put in in post box. 82cent for International stamp.55cent for a normal one.

And if any weighing rules exist, we ignore them!

So really I have no business in this thread, only to tease you's! Sawwwy!

You crazy Dutch, you just love to make things so easy, what with your legal pot and prossies, crazy liberals!
You don't have rules to break, actually you probably have a law that lets you legally break the rules!

I'm just playing!

If I'm sending a big envelope I just buy one from the post office that's already stamped.

there is last year's new rule that if an envelope is of greater thickness than 1/4" then they now add anadditional 44 cents. Since I like to send 4" x 6" pictures on photo paper, Iuse the same chart except if over 3 ounce better to add the extra than to have the envelope rejected back to me. I have noticed that 6 college ruled sheets go for one ounce rate!
