Hi Blake,

Its a real shame how the prison industry operates. They pay wages under a dollar a day, and this serves to keep a steady free source of cheap labor, and no incentive to ever let someone go home.

What a sad country this is!

Blake - my pp makes .40 cents an hour and has been on the job for 16 years. He makes the uniforms, and we are not talking military either. Sincerely, Fran

Yea I think the Going rate for PP's pay rate is .17 a hour to .37 or somewhere around that. One of mine makes .37 out of all of them, and thats the highest that I have heard so far.

Its quite ridiculous when you see the prices they have to pay for goods out of the commissary.

Yes they should be making money. They need to fit back into society someday. How can they do that without money. That's one of the reasons why recividism is so high. No one wants to give the ex-con a chance.

I agree with Wolfdoll - they need to have a responsibility for money, and have at least some preperation for when they are released. My PP only gets .23 cents per hour, and as said before the cost of the things in the commissary sometimes is just way too out of reach for most. Which is very sad.

Your right Wolf. I work alongside with a organization here that works to help Women convicted of Felonies get jobs here, and it is extremely hard for them to get placed in jobs.
At least by working in Prison these Guys and Gals still have to take on the responsibility of independence, and it keeps that resp. in their minds so that when they get out they are semi-adjusted to the idea that they have to work to make a living out here.

Hi!

Yes, they do need the jobs. They are charged for everything from a bar of soap to a roll of toiletpaper.

One of my pals teaches Literacty to other inmates for about $30.00 a month, and besides providing some self-worth, of which he has very little unfortunately, it provides a sense of structure and responsibility.

Also, most inmates are indigent, and it is kind of rare that their families are willing or able to provide any financial assistance to them.

What's even worse is that most prisons provide no job training or skills at all.

Only one pal that a friend and I have has a carpentry and sometimes a computer repair
course, out of all the PPs I ever wrote.

So someone without job training, plus a criminal record coming out of prison needs to make an honest living to support themselves, and to start all over.

Can you imagine living on a dollar a day?

I sure can't!

Vanessa
