Racism in America - is it not 2009?

Let me start by saying that both my 100% Spanish grandmothers married 100% British men thus my gene pool is 50% English and 50% Spanish. I self identify as bi racial. To look at me you would think I was a very white Brit. I have very white skin, blue eyes and light hair. (Get a killer tan in the summer)
I live in New Mexico and I believe Latino’s are in the majority followed by Native Americans then Caucasians. My history might be a little off but I believe this part of the US was first inhabited by Native Americans then colonized by Spain then acquired by the US as a part of the peace treaty in the Spanish/American war. My history could be a little off though.
To get to my point. I was in a Walmart last night and just happened to get in a check out line that had a new person working the cash register. This man happened to be Latino and you could tell he was new and having a difficult time. Well the person behind me happened to mention to me that he did not know why this country was over run with Latinos and they should all go home. He was a Caucasian guy and I am quite sure his family tree did not start in the Americas. I politely ignored him and in my best Spanglish told the clerk to take his time, I was in no hurry.
WTF, how can we as a country still have people that have these views? This country was not “discovered” by Europeans. Most of us are not Native Americans thus we can trace our roots to Europe, Asia, Africa, etc. Perhaps people with this point of view need to do some research and find out where their roots lead them.
