that might work depending on which state your pp is in some states dont allow skype numbers to be registered. Illinois and texas are 2 of them.

Are your pp's in state? Cuz if you have a pp in Texas state, he won't be able to call you: period. If either (or both) are in federal prison then you CAN use a skype number.

Well it's Dodge Correctional Institution, I don't know how to check if it's Federal but i'm sure its not... I guess there will be no way to speak to them! Unless i purchase an American Cell phone. It all seems to technical. I wouldn't even know where to start! You women are certainly lucky being able to chat to your pals. Okay, so he's in Wisconsin. Why don't you post a thread on the forum, asking if anyone writes to someone in Wisconsin? And if they call or not. Then they can tell you if they had to set up an account with the telephone vendor for WI DOC.

After much frustration I now know that I won't be able to talk to my pal until he is released sad times. We'll stick to good old fashioned writing! Thank you all so much for your input and help xx

Hi there. I am also in the UK and have a PP in Arizona who calls me. I found a UK registered and run company called Localphone that allows you to purchase a 'virtual' number in the U.States - you can then search by State and then nearest town even and you can then set up that all calls to that number forward to your own UK phone. My PP is able to call me and we speak for half an hour and it only costs him $3. On my side Localphone charges me £1.50 for a half hour call and i think they deduct like 75p a month for the number. We have had this set up for over 8 months now and talk every week :-). Once you sign up to Localphone, they will email you the local number - be sure to give that number to your PP, not your UK one!! It is a genuine USA number so should be allowed.
