Gate money is the key word. California gives $200 for those serving more than 6 months, less clothing (not sure what that means), and a bus ticket to where they are going. From a cursory viewing of other states $200 is the most and some states it is $0.

some states have forced savings, i know its not actually from the state but it can work up to quite a bit over the years. so maybe thats why same states dont have gate money??

OMG I have so much to learn. "Gate money" thank you friends for educating me to this, I had never heard of it. Does this apply to prisoners on death row too? What I mean is, do death row prisoners receive any money from the state to buy the essentials? I don't know how they cope if they do not have relatives or family that support them. Nette.
