Cannot answer, me too I am asking myself if I can send like 8X11 size envelope? Sometimes I use 5X9 enveloppe, so I only fold once my sheets, but, when I write more that would be great to use bigger enveloppes as well!

I called them. The lady on the phone was really unfriendly 'they are not allowed to have postes ma'am'. "Yeah but I asked for the bigger envelope, is that allowed'. 'Yes ma'am, bye'.

So yeah. There's a name for them but I forgot, something starting with an 'M' I belive. But anyway, the envelopes that are as big as a papersheet from a writepad are allowed. Be careful though, you have to put a lot more stamps on them, because they envelopes are pretty heavy! (weigh much)

    Yeah!
The pic is allowed (at least, that is if your pp is in AZDOC haha) and you need the second stamp only if you go over 20 grams.
Which is about 8 pages of writing paper.

good thing i put on the second stamp then I don't think 4 pieces of paper and 7 pics should exceed 50 grams...

i know it's been awhile since anyone has posted in here but from my pp i started talking to last month, she's said the only mailing restrictions were:
    1. no more than 30 photos at a time (which would mean larger envelopes being allowed)

and then the more obvious of:
    2. no "smut"
    3. no discussing anything highly illegal
    4. no discussing anything that could be mistaken for an escape plan

wanted to add this for future visitors to see

Be careful! That are the rules of HER prison!!! The rules are different for every state and sometimes even every facility. Some inmates are only allowed to have 5 photo's in their cell, so if someone sends more than that, they have to throw away the ones they already have, to name an example.

Just carefully read the mailrules or ask your pp before sending anything out of the blue, your penpal could get into trouble.

They posted in response to a post regarding AZ and also posted an update to phone rates in AZ as well. I would assume that thry have a pen pal in AZ. Yes, one should always do their research but its good information.

Just to show you how ridiculous things can get, I received a handmade card from one of my pen pals (non Arizona) and I received a letter (in two separate envelopes). Turns out, they have some weird rule that letters and cards cannot share the same envelope and they restrict how much verbiage can be in the card. Nowhere on the website does it state this. I guess this is one of those cases where each facility within a state is different.

Luckily most prisons are not as anal. We can do all the research in the world to ensure our mail is in line with protocol but I think they just make some of this crap up as they go along.
