My pp was having a hard time a little while ago, and I just asked everybody I know if they were willing to write a card for him to cheer him up, some didn't wanted (ok) and some did, so at the and of the week I could send him a big envelope with 14 cards with messages to him.
He was very happy with it and felt alive again.
Maybe a idea?
