Philip Brasfield comes to mind.
Brasfield has been inside approx 30 years now. His work has been in The Atlantic Monthly I think, The New York Review of books for certain.
He writes less now as his health is getting worse thanks to the Texas Department of Corrections. I think his work even requires little to no editing. It is that good. Texas Observer also.
There is serious doubt about his guilt too.

I was pleased to see Abbot's book brought up again. It created quite a stir in the early 80's.
