Thank you James! Thats very considerate of you to notice. Sorry I didnt respond sooner. My computer has been down for last couple weeks and I could read but not respond as I was using my office computer.

I enjoyed reading about your date. Youre a magnet for the confused; Im a magnet for the troubled and needy. We make a great pair.

meant to tell you. There are some great support groups out there for people dealing with friends and relatives living with COPD. Might be a good idea to attend one or two to educate yourself.

COPD. Use hospice as early as you can. Depending on the state you can often be approved as long as your mom needs O2. You will find the strength in you to deal with it. Its tough but it will bring you closer to your mom. Be open and honest in communications. Plan the funeral as early as possible, it was the hardest thing I ever had to do other than pull the plug on my Father when he was dying of cancer. I can recommend a good book... The caregivers survival handbook by Alexis Abramson.
If you ever need anyone to talk to I will be happy to be an ear for you. Email me at showyourpride@aol.com. The best thing about hospice is its all free even the meds. Mom has been on it for a year. She was given 6 months to live 9 months ago and is fighting it. She is really one resp infection away from death. I am ok with it. I have come to peace. Use your faith as well

The patient ends up on O2 24/7.Any activity takes their breath away. They stop cleaning themselves because it takes their breath away. I have known her to take 30 minutes to go to the bathroom because it takes he breath away. Eating small meals or snacks becomes norm. Mom is on meds they give anexoria patients to make her eat. She takes ativan to help her breath about 4x a day, does breathing treatments and takes morphine at times to help open her airways. Its really quite awful. At times I just cant watch or even stand to see what it does to her. I breakdown and cry. Having an x thats a Dr helps alot. He keeps me informed as well as Hospice.

Hoping when it gets really bad she will just od on her meds. She has openly discussed the option. All final plans are made and I am mentally and physically ready. She wants her ashes spread at sea and the plans are already made for that. It will make you a strong person

I am active in my local MCC, I do volunteer work at a local no kill cat and dog shelter. Thats my real love. Love the fact its no kill. I am also a book worm. I love to read. Favorite authors are Rita Mae Brown and Clive Cussler. HATE sports. Did not get that gene. Fairly active still in my X's practice. I fill in for his office staff quite often. Current BF does not always understand but our relationship is still casual. Love to cook, hike. Spend a lot of time caring for my Mom. She is on hospice care, has end stage COPD. No real time to have a real job. Got a good settlement when I "retired" after 18 years with a bank that the govt now owns. I will get back to part time work someday.

Get to Miami about once a year. My Dad was stationed at Homestead AFB for a very short time in the early 70's. Went to Naples once when it was a sleepy little town. I hear its quite a busy place now. Ft Lauderdale is nice but its for the younger gay men. Palm Springs Ca is more my speed. I have rheumatoid arthritis so I hate the humidity of Florida, I will take the dry heat.
