Mission Statement
Simply put, our mission is to reduce recidivism through letter writing.
We are horrified at what has become a wildfire trend to incarcerate greater numbers
of people for longer periods of time. Our nation's prison growth is unprecedented.
It is big business. It is affecting every single American in some way, if only in
increased taxes to sustain the growth. Every dollar spent on another prison cell is
another dollar that cannot be spent on a classroom. Every life languishing behind
bars represents lost potential and waste.
Your letters of friendship and encouragement can inspire an inmate to improve
himself, to seek an education, to find employment upon release. Your letters might
prevent a suicide or other desperate act born of loneliness. Your letters have the
power to impact a human life that has otherwise been disposed of in that vast
wasteland known as the prison system. Our mission is to help people connect with
each other with one common goal: to reduce the prison population in our country by
reducing the number of inmates who return to prison after they have been
released. We believe that the positive influence of regular correspondence
with new friends will lessen the loneliness, inspire hope, and ultimately reduce
recidivism for these men and women. We are committed to remembering the
forgotten in the hope that they will one day return to us as productive members of a
caring society.
