Dear Friends and Family Members,

Do you have a friend or family member who is incarcerated?  Many people who visit our site do so because they know someone who is serving a sentence in a correctional facility.  Our site attempts to provide information that you will find helpful and encouraging.  We know that having a loved one incarcerated can be a burden even for those on the outside.  The expense of collect phone calls from inmates, the planning and driving time to have visitation, and the overall worry about their well-being can take a toll on you.

We don’t have any magic solutions, but we do offer our understanding as you go through this challenging time.  We know you want to offer support and encouragement to the loved one who is incarcerated.  We also know that society is not always kind when they learn you have a friend or family member in prison.  It can be an awkward and painful situation.  So, we would just like to say that we salute you for standing by your son, daughter, brother, sister, father, mother, aunt, uncle, cousin, friend – your loved one – during this terrible trying time.  Your visits and letters give them support they desperately need at this time, and unfortunately, there is really no one to offer you support through all of this.  We wish you the best as you endure what is one of the most painful events a human being can experience – the experience of seeing a loved one behind bars.

We know that an act of friendship can mean a lot, and so we are doing our best to encourage folks to write a word or two of kindness to your loved one.  We’d also like to wish you well during this difficult time in your life.
