| Mission Statement |
| Our mission is to reduce recidivism by encouraging positive
relationships between inmates and free citizens. To this end we
encourage those on the outside to write letters of encouragement
to inmates, to support educational programs within the prison
system, to be active in sharing information about jobs and
housing, and to participate in an ongoing, proactive dialogue
about prison-related issues. |
| |
|
Goals of Our Service: |
- To reduce the likelihood of inmates re-offending upon
release
- To generate mail for every inmate on our website
- To work collaboratively with Departments of Correction in
the United States and around the world towards fostering
good mental health in inmates by encouraging positive
relationships with pen pals
- To encourage educational aspirations for inmates through our
Books Behind Bars program
- To provide a network of resources and support for family and
friends of inmates through our forum and resource directory
- To provide support for children impacted by crime by
providing scholarships to children of inmates and children
who are victims of crime
- To reduce the prison population by reducing recidivism
- To be proactive in recognizing and addressing the needs of
inmates and their friends and families that will lead to
them living productive, crime-free lives upon release
- To create and sustain an ongoing international dialogue
toward reducing crime, reducing recidivism, and protecting
the rights of all

| Your letters of friendship and encouragement can inspire an
inmate to improve himself, to seek an education, to find
employment upon release. Your letters might prevent a suicide or
other desperate act born of loneliness. Your letters have the
power to impact a human life that has otherwise been disposed of
in that vast wasteland known as the prison system. Our hope is
that people will connect with each other toward one common goal:
to reduce the prison population in our country by reducing the
number of inmates who return to prison after they have been
released. We believe that the positive influence of regular
correspondence with new friends will lessen the loneliness,
inspire hope, and ultimately reduce recidivism for these men and
women. We are committed to remembering the forgotten in the hope
that they will one day return to us as productive members of a
caring society. |

Unsolicited Mail: Inmates receiving
mail is our primary objective. However, this does not
include 'spam' mail from other services. Most
Departments of Corrections encourage correspondence with
inmates. However, they do not condone mail sent from
other organizations as a result of the prisoners being
listed on a pen pal website. This website is designed to
connect prisoners with people on the outside where both
parties seek friendship or the desire to pursue a
relationship. This website also provides a way for
people on the outside to assist with prisoners' legal
and employment matters. Should you send unsolicited mail
('spam') to the prisoners on this site, you are 1)
breaking the law, and 2) hindering what might be a
tenuous relationship between the prisoners and their
wardens. Prison mail rooms handle large quantities of
legitimate mail; most 'spam' mail is returned to the
sender and classified as "not allowed." If you are in
possession of important information to share with
inmates, then please, contact us first. We may be
willing to include it in our newsletter. Remember, your
identity cannot remain hidden on the Internet. If you
break this agreement policy, your IP address will be
recorded and banned from our website. You will then be
prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and
restitution will be sought. Thank you for respecting our
business policy and the men and women who place their
ads on our website. |
