Hi, my name is Eric. I am a 27 year old African American. I’ve been incarcerated since I was 21. Throughout my years spent in prison I’ve become passionate with poetry and philosophy. Being imprisoned at such an early age I wasn’t afforded the opportunity to really appreciate true friendship or develop genuine connections with people. By understanding social challenges in institutional living I now know I need to situate myself around people with goals and accomplishments, people with peaceful ideas and advice so I can inherit a positive approach towards life.
Now that I’ve redirected my focus I feel I have more to contribute in new interactions with people. Coming into contact with individuals who have socially attractive qualities helps keep my focus on new opportunities to have a full life. Sometimes a change of personalities can help keep me relevant within the real world.
Really, I just want to enjoy people again, experience new worldly opinions and hold unique one-on-one conversations. Unfortunately I’m in an environment where it’s a struggle just to divert conversations towards positive directions. A place where the more you keep “joy” to yourself the more the value of expressing it diminishes. Connecting back to the outside life and those that can share their common purposes is an experience I wouldn’t mind indulging in.
I’m hopeful that you might be willing to take the chance in extending your friendship with me. I look forward to the company.
